The short version
This site does not track you. There are no cookies, no analytics, no advertising pixels, and nothing is stored in your browser. We do not know who you are unless you fill in a form and send it.
The eligibility checker runs entirely in your browser. You can answer every question and read your result without sending us anything at all.
What we collect, and only when you send it
Two forms on this site collect information, and neither sends anything until you press the button.
- The eligibility checker. If you choose to pass your answers to an attorney at the end, we receive your first name, last name, date of birth, phone number and email address, together with the result the tool reached, the statute it cited, and the answers you gave on the way there.
- The “tell us about your case” form. First name, last name, date of birth, phone number, email address, and whatever you write in the explanation box.
Both forms also record the number of seconds between the page loading and you pressing send. That is a spam check — it catches automated submissions — and it is the only thing on this site measuring your behaviour.
The answers you give the checker are information about a criminal case. We ask for a date of birth because it is what tells two people with the same name apart on a court record. Please do not send us details of a case that is still open before speaking to a lawyer.
What happens automatically
Two things happen without you doing anything, and we would rather name them than leave them out.
Server logs. This site is hosted by Netlify, which records ordinary web-server information about requests: an IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser's user-agent string. That is standard hosting infrastructure and we do not use it to build any profile of you.
Fonts. The typefaces are served by Google Fonts, so loading a page on this site makes a request to Google's servers and Google receives your IP address as part of it. That is the only third-party server this site contacts while you read it.
Who else sees what you send
If you submit a form, your information passes through these companies. They are the only ones. We do not sell, rent, or trade anything you send us, and we never have.
- Netlify hosts the site, receives the submission, and keeps a copy in the site's form dashboard.
- Automattic operates Akismet, the spam filter Netlify runs every submission through before delivering it.
- Google carries the notification email to the firm's inbox, and serves the fonts described above.
How long we keep it
We keep a submission for three years and then delete it. Three years covers the time someone might reasonably come back to a matter they once asked about; after that there is no good reason for us to still be holding it.
If you would like yours deleted sooner, ask and we will delete it.
If you become a client, your file is kept under the rules that govern client files, which is a separate matter from this policy.
Seeing, correcting, or deleting your information
Email tct@thomasianlaw.com and ask. You can ask what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Please write from the address you sent it from, or give us enough detail to find the right submission — and be aware that asking us to delete something means we may no longer be able to help with the matter you wrote about.
Do Not Track, and tracking across other sites
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. This site does not track you in the first place, so there is nothing for the signal to change and we do not respond to it differently.
No third party collects information about your activity on this site over time or across other websites. There is no advertising network, no remarketing, and no social media tracking here.
Children
This site is meant for adults dealing with their own criminal record. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it.
Security, and what happens if something goes wrong
The site is served over HTTPS and form submissions are encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise.
If personal information held by this firm were exposed in a way that poses a significant risk of identity theft to a Rhode Island resident, R.I. Gen. Laws § 11-49.3-4 requires notice to the people affected within forty-five days of confirming the breach, and notice to the Attorney General as well if more than 500 Rhode Island residents are involved. We would follow that.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the effective date at the top of this page changes with it and the new version is posted here. We do not have a mailing list to notify, because we do not keep one.

Sending a form does not create an attorney-client relationship. Nothing on this site is legal advice about your situation, and the eligibility checker is a guide to the statute rather than a determination of your eligibility — expungement is discretionary with the court.
